Heroes shine through
sending out a resounding
thank you.

People come together
Carrying one another.
Underneath it all
we are cousins, sisters,
brothers.

The search continues.
Somewhere in the shadows
no one knows where
the villains are
out there.

Every time I listen to the news

I hear something horrible

Today's tragedy

reminds me

to expect

needless grief

to expect

questionable realities

to expect

unwarranted fatalities

Every time I listen to the news

I am reminded that

we are not all humane

we are not all able to avoid the insane

we are not all able to remain free from pain

we are not all humane

Every time I listen to the news
I hear something horrible
Today's tragedy

When can I expect a change
when will the forecast be something strange
When will I hear of 
people without strife
People living life
people giving hope
people not selling dope
people adopting children and pets
people feeding the homeless and our vets
people sharing what little they may have
people helping people without expectation
