It's time to write
my duty calls
Oh look there's something
on the wall
Never saw that spot before
I'd better clean it
such a chore.
It's time to write
put pen to page
Time to speak
the words of the sage
Oh wait what's that
my birdie dear
A dirty cage
can't have that here
It's time to write
with deep emotion
Your imagination
is boundless
just like the ocean
Oh but what do we
hear now
What is that ringing
buzzing sound
The phone for me
a conversation
so many distractions
are here today
Guess I'll write
another day

Mostly Clear Skies
Mostly clear skies
That's what
the weatherman said
Too bad there's cloudy weather
hanging around my head
Temperatures in the mid 60 degrees
Hot or cold it doesn't please me
A sunny day seems far away
atmospheric pressure
holds me down today
Longest day of the year is here
Long for more reasons than
the summer solstice I fear
Summer sun but I feel numb
Lots of reasons make me glum
Mostly clear skies
hover on the horizon
looking forward
to their eventual arrival
If I am able
to have it my way
My hazy gray
ends today
That's what
the weatherman said
Too bad there's cloudy weather
hanging around my head
Temperatures in the mid 60 degrees
Hot or cold it doesn't please me
A sunny day seems far away
atmospheric pressure
holds me down today
Longest day of the year is here

A Little Melancholy
I'm a little melancholy today
Can't find my happy place
Too much to do in
too little time
Just want some saving grace.
I'm a little melancholy today
These thoughts won't leave my mind
Inner fears projected way too clear
I'm sure they'll go away in time
I'm a little melancholy today
Can't escape what's looming near
So much to do in
so little time
I need to escape from here
I'm a little melancholy today
Mean reds or basic blue
This too shall pass
But for now alas
I'm melancholy
that's all that's true
Can't find my happy place
Too much to do in
too little time
Just want some saving grace.
I'm a little melancholy today
These thoughts won't leave my mind
Inner fears projected way too clear
I'm sure they'll go away in time
I'm a little melancholy today
Can't escape what's looming near
So much to do in
so little time
I need to escape from here
I'm a little melancholy today
Mean reds or basic blue
This too shall pass
But for now alas
I'm melancholy
that's all that's true

She Waits
She waits time and time again
"Maybe I'm Crazy"
The thought goes through
Words to contemplate
She waits time and time again
"Maybe I'm lucky"
Her imagination explores
the crowded corners
of a complex mind
She waits time and time again
"Maybe it's time to cry"
Another reason to wonder why
An intricate maze behind her eyes
She waits time and time again
"Maybe it's time to play"
A smile quivers behind the frown
So much has often let her down
but the possibility of tomorrow abounds
She waits time and time again
weary, weathered, worried eyes
absent smile with hat askew
Question after question
passing through
Longing for answers no one knew
She waits time and time again
"Maybe I'm Crazy"
The thought goes through
Words to contemplate
She waits time and time again
"Maybe I'm lucky"
Her imagination explores
the crowded corners
of a complex mind
She waits time and time again
"Maybe it's time to cry"
Another reason to wonder why
An intricate maze behind her eyes
She waits time and time again
"Maybe it's time to play"
A smile quivers behind the frown
So much has often let her down
but the possibility of tomorrow abounds
She waits time and time again

absent smile with hat askew
Question after question
passing through
Longing for answers no one knew
She waits time and time again

Errands
Gravel crunching beneath my feet
shadows cast where earth and sky meet
laughter from a gated yard
sirens, traffic,jingling keys
Walking in the neighborhood
sometimes encountering something good
sometimes what you shouldn't
daring to do all you wouldn't
creeping through a vacant lot
holding still in a shady spot
dart down an alley
stroll through an open door
Running errands helps you explore
all the world has in store
shadows cast where earth and sky meet
laughter from a gated yard
sirens, traffic,jingling keys
Walking in the neighborhood
sometimes encountering something good
sometimes what you shouldn't
daring to do all you wouldn't
creeping through a vacant lot
holding still in a shady spot
dart down an alley
stroll through an open door
Running errands helps you explore
all the world has in store

Today
I love you today;
for always today.
In every way,
I love you today.
Your forever can disappear.
Your tomorrow might not appear.
Your yesterday is all too clear
but your today is here.
I love you today.
What more can I say?
In every way
I love you today

I am and You are
I'm the adult and you're the child
my mother used to say
Every time I wanted to do it my way
I couldn't wait til I was older
to have just what I wanted
I'm the adult and you're the child
my mother used to say
This land of doing what you wanted
seemed awfully far away
I'm the adult and you're the child
When I grow up it's something that
I am never going to say
Petulant thoughts
I just didn't know
all that would happen
when I would grow
I'm the adult and you're the child
my mother used to say
How I wish that in life
this is how it would always stay
Now that I am quite the adult
handling the burdens of the day
How I long to hear my mom
once again just say
I'm the adult and you're the child
but it's no longer this way
my mother used to say
Every time I wanted to do it my way
I couldn't wait til I was older
to have just what I wanted
I'm the adult and you're the child
my mother used to say
This land of doing what you wanted
seemed awfully far away
I'm the adult and you're the child
When I grow up it's something that
I am never going to say
Petulant thoughts
I just didn't know
all that would happen

How I wish that in life
this is how it would always stay
Now that I am quite the adult
handling the burdens of the day
How I long to hear my mom
once again just say
I'm the adult and you're the child
but it's no longer this way
