Year of the Horse

Clever and kind

It's your time to shine

Cheerful and sweet

You are quite the treat

Perhaps a bit stubborn

and there's lots of chatter

but it doesn't matter

Everyone wants to be your friend

Time for the Year of the Horse to begin.

Work Day

I don't want to go there
I just want to stay here
Why did I agree to this
Why can't I afford to miss
a solitary day?

It's not so bad
It's just I'm spoiled
To 9 to 5 I have recoiled
I've better plans for my hours
I enjoy my chance to play.

Get up
Time's flowing
It's time to get going
No use trying to avoid it
Time to go to work today.

The Words

The words are sitting just beyond the point of comprehension
I see them
I hear them
they are calling to me
but they just won't come to this reality.

The words are awaiting my natural intuition
They sit
They spin
They allow me to comprehend
but to this plane they will not descend

The words are trying to capture my attention
They dance
They play
Capricious in their way
but from me they run away

Kicking and Screaming

Watch your back
Look out for my knee
Hand me my brace
Did you take your vitamins?

Not Statements or questions
of our youth
But color commentary
providing proof
That age may be a number
that our bones know quite well.

Kicking and screaming
is how we'll go
Whatever  the number
Whatever the pain

Resistance is futile
Some try to claim
But even if it is all in vain
I'll continue to play through the pain
til  these bright lights start to wane

Change

I don't like change
unless I change it myself
I don't like progress
unless I think it really is
I don't like feeling
as if it's all moving too fast
I don't like wondering
if it's going to truly last

The more things change
the more they stay the same
I've always found
that statement kind of strange
Change is change and
the same is the same
How we perceive it
shows us who to blame

I don't like change
unless I change it myself
I don't like progress
unless I think it really is
leave it alone
so it can stand the test of time
Why do people feel  being old
is such a crime?

Not Ready

Not ready to rouse from my slumber.
Not ready to wake from my dream.
Not ready for today's journey.
Not ready, not ready at all.

Why is the morning so early?
Why is the sun still asleep?
Why must the day begin at dawn?
Why does this time make me yawn?

Not ready to rouse from my slumber.
Not ready to wake from my dream.
Not ready for today's journey.
Not ready, not ready at all.

Why can't we have one more day off?
Why must we all work so hard?
Why can't we start a bit later?
Why does it all go so fast?

Not ready to rouse from my slumber.
Not ready to wake from my dream.
Not ready for today's journey.
Not ready, not ready at all.

These Are Our Words

These are not my words
they belong to us all
Said by the strongest
voice to hear the call.

The call for freedom
The call for equality
The call for Justice
The call for peace.

"In the process of gaining our rightful place,
we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds.
Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom
by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.
We must forever conduct our struggle
on the high plane of dignity and discipline.
We must not allow our creative protest
to degenerate into physical violence."

These are not my words
they belong to us all
Said by the strongest
voice to hear the call.

The call for freedom
The call for equality
The call for Justice
The call for peace.

'I have a dream that one day this nation
will rise up and live out the true meaning
of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal."'

These are not my words
they belong to us all
Said by the strongest
voice to hear the call.

The call for freedom
The call for equality
The call for Justice
The call for peace.

"And when this happens,
and when we allow freedom ring,
when we let it ring from every village
and every hamlet,
from every state and every city,
we will be able to speed up that day
when all of God's children,
black men and white men,
Jews and Gentiles,
Protestants and Catholics,
will be able to join hands and sing
in the words of the old Negro spiritual:

Free at last! Free at last!
Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

These are not my words
they belong to us all
Said by the strongest
voice to hear the call.

The call for freedom
The call for equality
The call for Justice
The call for peace.
One day I dream that these words
will reach the hearts, souls and minds
of all mankind
We still are working towards the dream
Let's make the dream come true
