As I walked along the shore I met an ebony mermaid with shimmering pink hair and amethyst fins. She sat extremely still. So still in fact that I closed my eyes believing she weren’t real. As I opened them and began to pass, she turned to me and smiled. “Where are you going?” she asked. I replied, “I do not know.” “Then sit with me and feel the wind and listen to the sea. Many a weary wandering soul has sat here next to me and once they sit they find the map for the life’s long journey.”
So I sat upon the golden sand and watched the jade green sea. I sat as still as my mermaid friend. I watched. I waited. I listened. I closed my eyes and felt the peaceful sun’s rays fill my face with warmth. I relaxed until I began to hear the song of the emerald sea.
The mermaid glanced at me and then softly sang a symphony. A silent song, slightly off key. She sang of stars and caramel bars and candy coated trees. She sang of the chains of infinity which connect the worlds above to the moons of unity and the peaceful sun we love.
She sang of the shores of infinity where souls often tend to pass. And how so very many of them often seem to lack the knowledge of just how to see the place that they had passed.
She sang so long. She sang so sweet. She sang until she wept.
And as she wept tears filled the sea and she disappeared in their depth.
And there I sat. And there I stayed and gazed upon the skies. I slowly slipped into a sleep that scarcely closed my eyes.
When I awoke with glimmering hope I smiled and cried and sang. For in my heart a map was carved to help me on my way. As I got up and began to leave, the mermaid reappeared. Amethyst fins on golden sands, strands of pink and ebony hands she gazed upon the sky. Still as stone she sat again. And I wondered why? Then I saw a traveler weary and lost like me. He stopped. He stared. He blinked and started to pass. That’s when I heard the mermaid say, “Where are you going?” He looked and shrugged and then replied “I really do not know.” “Then sit with me and feel the wind and listen to the sea. Many a weary wandering soul has sat here next to me and once they sit they find the map for the life’s long journey.”
