What if one year there were no children
to run and jump and play.
What if one year their childish laughter
could not be heard on a hot summers day.
What if one year there were no questions
Asked by young eager minds.
What if the ice cream delivery man
Had no one to ask which kind.
What if one year the daisy chains
Lay scattered upon the ground.
Scattered because the prince and princess
No longer rode the merry-go-round.
What if one year the halls of ivy
Had no graduating class.
What if one year there was no one
To run and tumble on the grass.
What if you walked along the sand
And saw no castles there.
What if you looked into the sky
And saw no lively shapes just empty air.
What if one year there were no children
To run and jump and play.
What if one year there were no childrenTo take our fears away
